Whoopi Goldberg has had an extraordinary career. She’s one of the few people in show business who’s won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony. There’s really nothing left for her to accomplish in the entertainment industry, so as she continues her day job hosting The View, Goldberg is branching out and exploring greener pastures, so to speak, by launching a new line of medical marijuana products designed to relieve the pain women feel from menstrual cramps. It’s high time a product like this was introduced Goldberg said, given that 50 percent of women experience extremely painful cramping each month.

“When I asked whether there was medicinal cannabis out there to give relief to women with cramps, I was told that would be a ‘niche’ product,” Goldberg said in an interview with The Daily Beast. “We’re here for that niche, which is made up of half the population.” The new business, which Goldberg is partnering with a friend to launch, is named “Whoopi & Maya,” will sell pot-infused salves and edibles. Goldberg, a noted marijuana advocate, brushed aside a lack of scientific data showing that medical marijuana can help relieve menstrual cramping pain. “How can you have a male expert tell any woman what works for her period?” Goldberg said in the interview. “Just because they haven’t done the studies does not mean women haven’t been finding relief wherever they can.” No word on whether her View co-hosts will be getting any free samples of the products, but if the “Hot Topics” segment suddenly becomes uncharacteristically mellow, you’ll have a good idea of why that is.
