Donald Trump threatens to go after Ted Cruz’s wife on Twitter

By WITW Staff on March 23, 2016

Just one day after a New York Times/CBS News poll revealed that a majority of Republicans feel “embarrassed” about the presidential race, Donald Trump took to Twitter to make innuendos about an opponent’s wife. “Lyin’ Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin’ Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!” he tweeted on Tuesday evening, referencing an attack ad that only ran in Utah and featured a nude photo of Melania Trump from a 2000 GQ photoshoot. “Meet Melania Trump. Your Next First Lady,” the ad, targeted at Mormon women in Utah read, “Or, You Could Support Ted Cruz on Tuesday.”

Donald Trump saw the ad as a personal attack by the Texas senator, but Cruz was quick to deny his involvement on Twitter. “Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you’re more of a coward than I thought. #classless,” he tweeted right before polls closed in the Arizona Republican primary, making the Republican race once again feel more like a bar brawl than an actual election.
