Mother of five dies from blood clot after delivering triplets

By WITW Staff on March 8, 2016

A mother of five who had just given birth to triplets in a high-risk pregnancy died last month just moments after reuniting with her two older children, leaving behind five children and a husband in the rural community of Clay Center, Kansas. Casi Rotti, a 36-year-old elementary school secretary and mom of two, had been living away from her two older children and husband to be close to the hospital in Wichita, Kansas, and was on bed rest for two weeks leading up to the C-section delivery. But after the birth, Rotti had chest pains while recovering at her in-laws and was treated for a blood clot that had reached her lungs and then released.

On February 8, the day of her release, Rotti drove 130 miles home to Clay Center to reunite with the rest of her family. “That day was the happiest I’d ever seen her,” her husband told The Kansas City Star.

But shortly after she arrived home, and ten days after giving birth, Rotti once again experienced chest pains due to the blood clot. As her husband began to drive her back to the hospital in Wichita, she died. The rural community of Clay Center has since rallied around the Rottis, and raised nearly $85,000 for the family of six in the weeks since Casi passed away.
