Emma Watson reveals cover of Esquire’s gender equality issue

Emma Watson has revealed the cover of Esquire’s April Men and Women’s issue — a special edition of the magazine that will focus on the fight for gender equality. The cover features Watson alongside Tom Hanks, and while Watson is likely to profile her work as a U.N. Women’s Ambassador for HeForShe and their new project (the IMPACT 10X10X10 Initiative), it remains unclear how Hanks, who has not been publicly associated with feminism, will add to the conversation.

HeForShe, a group which focuses on women’s rights as a human rights issue, and with whom Watson has worked extensively, began IMPACT 10X10X10 in January as a one-year effort aimed at engaging governments, corporations, and universities in affecting women’s empowerment and equality. In February, Watson told noted feminist bell hooks in Paper Magazine that she intends to take a year off from making movies to focus on her personal development by engaging with her new feminist book club and reading feminist literature. Esquire’s Men and Women’s issue for April 2016 will be available soon, including interviews with Watson, Hanks, Caitlin Moran, Aziz Ansari, and more.
