Teacher forced to resign after student steals phone, circulates nude photos

A screen grab shows Leigh Anne Arthur (WYFF)

A South Carolina woman was forced to resign from her post as a mechatronic teacher at Union County Career and Technology Center after a student took her phone and sent a nude photo of her to others last month. County interim superintendent David Eubanks said that Leigh Anne Arthur was responsible because her phone was unlocked, making the nude photo available to her students and told The State that he was unsure if the student would face discipline. “I think we have a right to privacy, but when we take inappropriate information or pictures, we had best make sure it remains private,” he said.

Arthur told WYFF that the student tampered with her phone while she was on hallway patrol and believes he should be held accountable for his actions. “He had the ultimate decision to take pictures of my pictures and he had the ultimate decision to send them out,” she said. “He had to hit my apps button and to open up all my apps and then open my gallery.”

Three male students have started an online petition to bring the teacher back, saying Arthurs “has not only shown tremendous dedication to her students, but also the mechatronics program itself, often reaching out to local businesses and colleges to get materials that would not normally be available for class.”

“With that being said,” it continues, “the student(s) responsible have not received any sort of punishment. The circumstances in which Mrs. Arthur was let go is unacceptable, and must be corrected.”
