Afghan women’s cycling team nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Afghanistan’s National Women’s Cycling Team has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by members of the Italian government, Total Women’s Cycling reports. Led by Zara Hussaini, the team shatters cultural restrictions placed on women, even in the face of harassment and threats. In a trailer for Afghan Cycles, an upcoming documentary about the team, one rider says: “They tell us that this is not our right to ride a bike in the streets and such. We tell them that this is our right … Then we speed off.” The team’s nomination has been signed by 118 Italian MPs.
