Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri announced in a Tumblr post today that she recently learned she has breast cancer, but that her prognosis was good and she expected a “full recovery” after treatment in St. Louis over the next three weeks. McCaskill, a Democrat, said her staff would continue working with Missourians while she is in treatment, and she would post to her website how she would have voted on any issues that come up in the Senate while she’s away. She also noted that she found out her diagnosis through a routine mammogram.

McCaskill’s announcement was met with messages of support on Twitter, including a tweet from Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, who said, “The entire Planned Parenthood community sending love and prayers to @clairecmc and her family.”
