British journalist and noted anti-feminist Milo Yiannopolous has been scheduled to participate in a debate next week at The University of Michigan, according to MLive. The Michigan Review, a conservative student publication behind the debate, believes that as “underdogs” on campus, “their views need to be more boldly stated,” according to editor-in-chief Omar Mahmood. “We want both perspectives there, battling it out.” Also on the panel, entitled “Does Modern Feminism Have a Problem with Free Speech?” is feminist author Julie Bindel. Both were picked because of the “extreme” nature of their viewpoints, Mahmood confirmed to MLive.
“This promises to incite, along with a lot of hurt feelings and hopefully some critical thinking as well,” Mahmood said. “They make no attempt to hide that.”
Rape culture, the wage gap, feminism, the pro-rape group Return of the Kings, and affirmative action are all expected to be discussed.
In the past, Yiannopolous has said that rape culture is as close to truth as the fictional character Harry Potter. His recent appearances at The Ohio State University and The University of Manchester in England were both cancelled after protests.
