Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz decided to pull an advertisement after discovering that one of the actresses, Amy Lindsay, had previously appeared in softcore adult movies such as Erotic Confessions, Carnal Wishes, Secrets of a Chambermaid and Insatiable Desires. The video, titled “Conservatives Anonymous” parodies a therapy group session, where disgruntled Marco Rubio voters can air their grievances. Lindsay plays a woman who tells another group member: “Maybe you should vote for more than just a pretty face next time.”
After Buzzfeed discovered Lindsay’s filmography and asked the Cruz campaign to comment, they announced they would replace the ad with a different one. “The actress responded to an open casting call. She passed her audition and got the job. Unfortunately, she was not vetted by the production company. Had the campaign known of her full filmography, we obviously would not have let her appear in the ad,” Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler said. Before the ad was taken down, Lindsay told Buzzfeed that she was a Christian conservative and Republican, and stressed that — while she had never done hardcore porn and appeared in “regular movies” too — she thought it was “cool” the Cruz campaign would feature a softcore porn actress in their ads. After Buzzfeed posted the story, however, she tweeted: “Extremely disappointed the #TedCruz campaign pulled the national television spot I had a role in… #moretocome #myvotecounts”
