"Notoriously frank"

Who better than Helen Mirren to deliver a drunk driving warning to Super Bowl viewers?

Oh, how the collective we love Helen Mirren for her signature frankness and her willingness to drop the occasional F-bomb at unexpected times while TV cameras are rolling. Clearly, beer giant Budweiser loves her too — or at least recognized that if you want to get a clear and sober message across, there might not be anyone more adept at delivering it then the Oscar-winning actress. So the beer maker enlisted her to appear in a Super Bowl commercial, which begins with Mirren seated in a fancy restaurant, a burger and fries and a bottle of Bud resting on the table before her. She introduces herself. “Hello, I’m Helen Mirren, a notoriously frank and uncensored British lady,” Mirren says before pivoting to observe that “The collective we are still dumbfounded that people still drive drunk. If you drive drunk, you, simply put, are a short-sighted, utterly useless, oxygen-wasting, human form of pollution,” Mirren says in the spot. She continues, saying, “A Darwin-award deserving, selfish coward. If your brain was donated to science, science would return it. So stop it.” But, why simply read what she says? It’s so much more fun to watch Mirren deliver the goods, so go ahead and press play on the video below. It’s actually an important message and it’s part of Budweiser’s larger #GiveADamn social media campaign.
