People come in different sizes, so the world’s most popular doll probably should, too. That’s the logic behind Mattel’s newest Barbie dolls, created amid a large-scale debate over whether or not the iconic toy promoted unrealistic beauty standards. Barbie sales have been dropping since 2012.
Starting this week, Barbie.com will offer three new body types—petite, tall and curvy—in addition to the standard model, which was created 57 years ago. New sizes also invite new skin tones and hair textures to better reflect more types of young people who admire the doll, but Mattel would not disclose to Time any details about the doll’s new proportions, or how they were decided upon.
