“Draw The Line,” a new campaign created by the Center for Reproductive Rights, features seven actresses sharing other women’s abortion stories in order to raise awareness of abortion, and help people understand the varied and complex reasons women choose to have them. One story is that of a woman with an ectopic pregnancy, a type of pregnancy that the infant is unlikely to survive and if not aborted puts the mother’s life in danger. Another woman chose an abortion because she did not want to create a life with the man whose abuse she had just escaped. Still another just wasn’t ready to be a mother.
Actresses, including Elizabeth Banks and Mercedes Mason, read other women’s personal testimonials, in a campaign that launched a day before the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade — the landmark ruling which granted women the right to choose. The campaign is a response to the Supreme Court’s November announcement they will hear Texas abortion case Whole Woman’s Health v. Cole, a case whose outcome could potentially lead to the shutdown of most of Texas’ abortion clinics.
