A three-year old boy in New Orleans has died after his grandmother’s gun apparently went off under a pillow in a bed where the two of them were sleeping, striking the child in the chest. The boy was rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved. The shooting occurred around 2am, and the boy and his 42-year old grandmother, Deonca Kennedy, a security guard, were the only two in the house at the time. The New Orleans police have not yet definitively ruled whether the shooting was accidental, as Kennedy “hasn’t given a statement and just refused to cooperate.” Kennedy has since been booked on charges of negligent homicide, second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and child desertion.
