On Monday night, a Missouri woman gave birth to a massive baby boy, causing the newborn’s grandfather to wonder if the tyke was the biggest baby ever born in the state. Ashley Box, unexpectedly gave birth to Kasen Michael Box by Caesarean-section. Young Kasen tipped the scales at a whopping 12 pounds 8 ounces, and measured some 24 inches in length. He is so “huge” his grandfather, Kevin Wells, contacted The Springfield News-Leader to see if there’d been any other babies of that size born in Missouri. A search of recent births turned up a baby in 2012 that weighed in at 14 pounds, and of one nearby hospital’s 3,000 births in 2015, only one baby clocked in at the 12-pound mark. “This is very rare,” a doctor confirmed. As for Ashley, she was, understandably, tired after the delivery. “We pushed and no progress,” she told the paper, adding that doctors opted for a C-section when things weren’t progress. After though, she was delight with her little — err, giant — bundle of joy. “To me, he feels small, but he is still huge.”
