A 31-year old Italian man is accused of having deliberately infected at least 29 women with HIV, by asking them not to wear a condom before having sex and not disclosing the fact that he was HIV positive. The man, known as Valentino T. was arrested in December, after six women who became infected after having sex with him between 2006 and 2009 came forward. The number of victims rose to 29, all women between 20 and 30, as more of his sexual partners came forward to be tested. He is now facing charges of “grievous and incurable bodily harm.”
He told an Italian newspaper in December he said that he didn’t think he would infect the women because his disease was “regressive”, although he did admit that unprotected sex with HIV was like playing “Russian roulette.” His lawyer said: “My client is not a monster…he’s a guy who had no emotional or sentimental education.”
