This tweet by Heather W. from New York sums up a lot of people’s frustrations as they failed to secure tickets yesterday to Adele’s much-anticipated North American tour, while many tickets fall in the hands of people who resell their tickets at exorbitant prices. But the multi-million selling artist is now working to address the problem, teaming up with the website Songkick to manage her ticket sales and preventing tickets from ending up with scalpers. “By selling the highest number of tickets we were able to through our own channels, and working with Songkick and their technology, we have done everything within our power to get as many tickets as possible in the hands of the fans who have waited for years to see her live,” Jonathan Dickins, Adele’s manager, said in a news release. Songkick said it sold 235,000 tickets through Adele’s website, and by tracking those who tried to place orders, were able to block 53,000 sales to known or likely scalpers. Some of the tickets for her shows went for as high as $11,000 on StubHub, and one estimate says Songkick’s efforts will have saved the singer’s fans some $6.3 million in markups on such secondary ticketing sites.
