North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is bent on improving relations with China, and to that end is dispatching his own personal all-girl band, Morabong Band, to Beijing for a week of shows. The “Dear Leader” of the Hermit Kingdom appointed the band about three years ago and most of the group’s songs center on propaganda about Kim’s “warm heart” and “sweet smile.” CNN, citing a press release from North Korean state media, reported that the group is “a model of the Juche-based literature and art and a worldwide stylish band,” and that it “will soon give friendship performances in China.”

On Thursday, the U.N. Security Council will discuss alleged human rights abuses in North Korea and activists are hoping Kim will be referred to the International Criminal Court. China carries a veto on the Security Council. North Korea and China have had a complicated relationship for decades — but, hey, nothing says “let’s be friends” like a propaganda-singing pop band.
