Adele accused by fans of “stealing” dead Turkish singer’s ballad

By WITW Staff on December 8, 2015

Adele has been accused by fans of the late Turkish singer Ahmet Kaya of “stealing” one of his songs for her latest album, 25. Kaya’s fans say Adele’s ballad “Million Years Ago” bears similarities to his “Acilara Tutunmak” (“Clinging to Pain”), released in 1985.

One fan went so far as to create a mash-up of the two songs, to demonstrate their likeness:

Kaya’s own widow, Gülten Kaya, however, told reporters she did not think an international star like Adele would plagiarize a song. “If she consciously did it then it would be theft,” she added, in an interview with Turkish daily Posta.
