A trio of Indian women realized a dream by going on a road trip across 17 countries, driving all the way from New Delhi to London. Nidhi Tiwari, Rashmi Koppar, and Dr. Soumya Goyal are all members of Women Beyond Boundaries, a group of “travel happy women” who hope to empower and encourage other women to plan and execute road journeys. Tiwari, the sole driver of the three women, and her friends took sabbaticals from their respective occupations to take the trip. They secured a sponsorship from an Indian car manufacturer who provided them with a vehicle, and left from New Delhi in June. The three sojourners traveled through Myanmar, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, and France, before finishing their epic trip in London. The women averaged between 400km and 1200km of driving a day and became the first all-women team to travel from Delhi to London by road. The three hope their example can demonstrate that there’s nothing for women to fear about taking road trips without men — and that other women follow their lead in embracing the transformative experience of travel.
