Several commuters on the London subway system have reported receiving cards telling them they are a “fat, ugly” human, by a group calling itself “Overweight Haters Ltd” which says it “hates and resents fat people.” Police said they were aware of the leaflets being distributed and would investigate the matter. A woman named Kara Florish who says she was handed one of the cards, posted a picture on Facebook, saying: “I am not upset myself, I am smaller than the national average and not exactly obese, but this is hateful and cowardly and could potentially upset people struggling with confidence and eating disorders.

It’s not clear who is behind this cruel “campaign”, but one individual who had been spotted handing out the cards was described as an “ordinary-looking middle-aged man.” Transport of London asked passengers receiving the abusive cards to contact staff or police, and its director of enforcement and on-street operations responded that “all of our customers have the right to travel with confidence, and this sad and unpleasant form of antisocial behavior will not be tolerated.”
