Vladimir Putin’s family life has long been shrouded in mystery, but The Guardian has nevertheless pieced together a rather fascinating profile of the Russian president’s daughter, Katerina Tikhonova. Tikhonova has taken her grandmother’s surname, and never publically proclaimed her relationship to her father but, in January of this year, opposition politician Alexei Navalny published an online report that named her as Putin’s daughter. The 29-year-old is said to be married to Kirill Shamalov, the son of one of Putin’s long-time friends. If reports of their marriage are indeed true, the couple boasts corporate holdings of about $2 billion. Tikhonova is currently attached to the mechanics and mathematics faculty at Moscow State University, and is at the helm of a $1.7 billion plan to expand the campus. She has authored six academic papers since 2011, including several studies on medicine and space travel. Tikhonova is also a competitive “acrobatic rock n’roll” dancer, which is something that really has to be seen to be believed.
