An 85-year-old Austrian woman cut almost a million euros ($1.1 million) into tiny pieces, in an apparent attempt to spite her successors. After the woman passed away in a retirement home, 950,000 euros and several account books were found shredded under her bed. State prosecutor Erich Habitzl told the AFP that there isn’t much the courts can do for the family. “The damage of the money in the woman’s property is not a criminal matter, so we have not begun any investigation,” he said. Fortunately, Austria’s central bank has promised it will replace the cash if the heirs can assure its origins. Moral of the story? Call your grandma every once in a while.
