There have been a lot of Ocean’s Eleven spinoffs, but the latest is headed in new direction: the new Ocean’s movie is set to feature an all female line-up of criminals, with Sandra Bullock playing the lead. George Clooney, the original Ocean’s lead, has been a creative partner with Bullock for some time: the two starred together in Gravity in 2013, plus Our Brand is Crisis, debuting this weekend, lists Clooney as a producer and Bullock as the lead. The new Ocean’s film is part of a recent trend in Hollywood to genderbend old classics, with the all-female remake of Ghostbusters serving as the most notable example. The screenplay is being handled by Olivia Milch, a sought-after writer for female-centric projects who made her name with the scripts for Queen & Country, and Little Women. The new Ocean’s project, though exciting, is still some ways from completion: director Gary Ross of Seabiscuit and The Hunger Games fame is expected to start filming once done with his most recent project, The Free State of Jones, which is scheduled to premiere in May 2016.
