Futurologist Dr. Ian Pearson has released a report (in collaboration with Bondara, one of the U.K.’s leading sex-toy retailers) in which he predicts a brave new world where, in just 10 years, having virtual sex, or sex with robotic partners, will be as normal as watching pornography. Within 35 years, he predicts, robot sex will be overtaking human-to-human activities. Reservations about sex with robots will gradually be overcome as people get used to them, as the artificial intelligence and mechanical behavior and their “feel” improves, says Pearson. “[As] they start to become friends with strong emotional bonds, that squeamishness will gradually evaporate,” Pearson explains in the report. “While some people will enthusiastically embrace relationship-free robot sex as soon as they can afford one, as early as 2025, it won’t have much chance of overtaking sex with humans overall until 2050.”
