Hayden Panettiere goes into treatment for postpartum depression

Hayden Panettiere, star of ABC’s serial music drama Nashville, has not shied away from discussing her battle with postpartum depression following the birth of her first child, Kaya, last December. A statement issued by her representative has revealed that the actress has decided to seek professional help and check into a treatment facility. Earlier this year, Panettiere — whose character on Nashville also grapples with postpartum depression — discussed her personal struggle on the talk show Live with Kelly and Michael. “It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you’re told] about postpartum depression, you think it’s, ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child,’” she said. “I’ve never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”
