On Friday morning, Lady Gaga released a video for her new song “Til It Happens To You”  — a song dedicated to survivors of sexual assault around the world, accompanying “The Hunting Ground”, a documentary on campus rape. The clip, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (known for Twilight and Thirteen), shows harrowing scenes of sexual assault on a college campus and depicts three survivors coming to terms with their assault. It ends with a powerful slate saying “One in five college women will be sexually assaulted this year unless something changes.” Lady Gaga has been outspoken about sexual assault in the past, sharing her experience with being assaulted herself at age 19 and joining a New York campaign to address the problem of campus rape. Portions of the proceedings of the song will go to organizations that work with survivors of rape and sexual assault.
