Instagram censors Naomi Campbell’s topless photo

By WITW Staff on September 17, 2015

Supermodel Naomi Campbell tested Instagram’s infamous “no nipple” policy as the latest salvo in the #FreeTheNipple movement, which challenges double standards about nudity. Campbell, 45, posted a fully topless black and white image on the popular photo-sharing site. She’s certainly not the first to do so (hello Chelsea Handler, Miley Cyrus and Rumer Willis), but none of the previous celebrity topless photos lasted as long as Campbell’s did. She apparently is now the new topless photo record-holder on Instagram as it took about 20 hours for the site to take it down. The move was a double-win for Campbell, who has a book coming out soon. The uncropped photo is NSFW, but if you’re hankering for a peek at it, it’s viewable on Campbell’s Twitter feed right here. The photo-sharing site has had a tumultuous relationship with women over their often-clumsily-applied nudity policy and incited a major backlash earlier this year when it banned the #curvy hashtag. Eventually, it backed down and reinstated the hashtag after a few days.
