A photograph of ten active duty soldiers in uniform, breastfeeding their children — originally intended as a fun way of livening up the 1st Armored Division’s room for nursing mothers in Fort Bliss, Texas — has quickly gone viral. Tara Ruby, the photographer who came up with the idea, posted the picture to her Facebook page where it was promptly removed. Ruby then reposted the picture, using hashtag #normalizebreastfeeding – and quickly saw her post go viral, receiving thousands of shares and encouraging comments. “Breastfeeding their babies doesn’t make them less of a soldier, I believe it makes them a better one,” said Ruby. “Juggling the tasks and expectations of a soldier, plus providing for their own in the best way they possibly can, makes (these) ladies even stronger for it.”
