The future is now! And so is the past: the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem has announced they will bring Billie Holiday back to life on their stage, as a hologram. The unparalleled jazz singer’s own history is closely intertwined with that of the theater, where she made her debut at 19 years old and performed 30 times. Hologram technology will be used along with Holiday’s voice from audio recordings, to create an interactive experience: “Billie is going to be able to talk about the history of the Apollo,” explained Jonelle Procope, president of the Apollo. “She can take questions from the audience in an interesting way. She can sing some songs.” Mrs Procope said she expected other artists to follow as well, but reassured the New York Times that she would “never do anything that would compromise the integrity of the artists or the Apollo.”
