Barbershop fined for not cutting woman’s hair

A barbershop in the U.S. has been fined $750 for refusing to cut a woman’s hair. The Pennsylvania store, Barbiere, is advertised as a “high end Gentleman’s Barber Shop” but that designation didn’t deter Diamond Pecjak, who booked appointments online for herself and her boyfriend. On arriving for her cut, Pecjak was told by barber Kerri Wonsettler that the shop specialized in men’s cuts. “That’s why I work here,” said Wonsettler. “I don’t cut women’s hair.” Pecjak filed a complaint to the state’s Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs for gender discrimination and a fine was issued after the conclusion of an investigation. Barbiere owner John Interval said the fine “infringes” on his shop’s environment but will pay it. Interval says, “Guys come here as a kind of a little getaway, to be around other guys.”
