The late Jack Kirby is famous for his artistry, especially the character of The Incredible Hulk. In an interview published in The Comics Journal in 2011, he said that The Hulk came about after he witnessed a woman a woman lifting a car to save her child, who was playing in the gutter before getting stuck in the “running board under the car.” “Whatever the Hulk was at the beginning I got from that incident,” Kirby explained. “This woman proved to me that the ordinary person in desperate circumstances can transcend himself and do things that he wouldn’t ordinarily do.”
