A young girl bomber, believed to be about 14 years old, died and killed five and wounded about 41 other people in a suicide attack on the crowded entrance to the main bus station of Damaturu, a town in the Northeast of Nigeria, authorities said. The Islamic extremists of Boko Haram have been using women and girls, who are feared to be their kidnapping victims, to carry out these types of bombings in Nigeria and neighboring countries. Violence has escalated and more than 1,000 people have died since the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in March, who promised to destroy the militant group. They have been forced to resort to hit-and-run tactics and suicide bombings since they were driven out of some 25 towns they had captured earlier this year.
