No arrests have been made in connection to the death of Jamyla Bolden, 9, who was killed while doing homework on her mother’s bed in Ferguson, Missouri, this week. Shots were fired into the home and her mother, 34, was injured, but has since been released from the hospital. Bolden was in the fourth grade and described to the St. Louis Dispatch as “very sweet, kind and soft-spoken” by a spokesperson for Riverview Gardens schools. Police, who are searching for the shooter, say it is still unclear whether the attack was random or targeted. “Our concern is to get this person off the street,” said Ferguson Sgt. Dominica Fuller. “The simple fact is our kids are dying at a young age at a fast pace and we as a community must come together.” Ira DeWitt, the wife of St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt, told KSDK on August 20 that she will pay for the cost of Bolden’s funeral.
