According to Indian police, two brothers in Northern India are being sought after they beheaded their 17-year old sister and paraded her head through the village because of their disapproval of an alleged romantic affair she had with her cousin. At least a dozen people witnessed her public execution, and police said it was a local security guard who eventually reported the crime to authorities. The police say the two were seen roaming the streets of their village, carrying their sister’s head and decrying her relationship. While the two are still on the run, the police have detained one of their cousins for questioning. According to The Associated Press, such brutal murders are a rare occurrence in India, but honor killings remain common across the country.
