Here’s something to spend the weekend puzzling over. A family in Ireland had not had a baby girl born into it since 1898 — until last Thursday when Laurence and Leanne May welcomed baby Saoirse Grace May into the world. That’s 117 years without a newborn girl! Laurence reportedly said he confirmed the unlikely girl drought with census records that showed the last girl born in his family was his great aunt Anne way back in the 19th century. Even more amazing — the couple didn’t find out ahead of time what they were having, so there was overwhelming surprise in the delivery room when little Saoirse arrived.
