Woman passenger accuses South Carolina Uber driver of rape

The innovative ride-hailing company Uber certainly has its share of ups and downs. Chalk this story up as another down. A woman passenger in South Carolina alleges that an Uber driver, who also happens to be a sixth-grade teacher during the day, raped her. Police say Patrick Aiello, 39, picked up the 23-year-old woman along with a male companion. They first stop was at the male companion’s house, and after he was dropped off, the woman told police, Aiello drove her around and told her she would have to pay the ride fare with sexual favors. She begged him to let her go, but said he sexually assaulted her and then kicked her out of the vehicle on the side of the highway. She was then accidentally hit by a car after he sped off. Aiello was arrested and has been charged with kidnapping and forcible rape, and was fired from his teaching job.
