Donald Trump’s fellow candidates during last Thursday’s debate aren’t the only ones who feel the circus around Trump has distracted from what’s important. On Tuesday, New York State Senator Diane J. Savino took to Facebook with a tough message. “I am not going to listen to this nonsense anymore about how Trump is offensive to women,” she wrote. “On that stage that night were 3 current United States Senators, and 2 Governors who all said that women’s lives are worthless, except as potential breeders.” Savino told ThinkProgress she was referring to Senators Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio, along with Ohio Governor John Kasich and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. All five support legislation to outlaw abortion after 20 weeks. Rubio and Cruz do not support exceptions for rape or incest and Paul refuses to specify his view on the issue). Governor Scott Walker has gone so far as to say he does not support abortions even when the life of the mother is at risk. Savino’s outrage mirrored Hillary Clinton’s remarks on Monday, in which she called Trump “outrageous” but was more concerned with Rubio’s opposition to abortion in cases of rape or incest and the larger Republican stance on the issue. Compared to his competitors, many of whom actually possess political office and power, Trump can almost seem women friendly. He said on Tuesday that he supports the exceptions that Rubio opposes.
