Gilbert hopes to focus on families still recovering from the recession, with her campaign announcing her intention to focus on issues affecting women and children. Gilbert previously served as the president of the Screen Actors Guild from 2001-2005, demonstrating some experience holding elected office. However, her campaign won’t go without its challenges: in June, the IRS revealed Gilbert owes more than $360,000 in back taxes.
