Thirty-seven-year-old Ralkina Jones was found dead in her Cleveland Heights City Jail cell on Sunday, July 26. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office performed a preliminary autopsy on Monday and said she had suffered no suspicious injuries. A full report is pending. Jones was accused of striking her ex-husband in the arm with a tire iron, then nearly running over him and a friend with her car while her 11-year-old daughter was in the backseat. She was arrested, but her ex-spouse didn’t press charges. Officials released a statement saying Jones was observed by medical professionals three times from Saturday evening into Sunday morning. They checked her vitals, which appeared normal at 12:45am on Sunday, but found her unresponsive at 7:30 am. Her family is looking for answers. Renee Ashford, the woman’s sister, told Cleveland.com on Monday that her sister was fine when they spoke on Saturday: “She didn’t complain of nothing, saying she was hurting or anything.” Adding “One thing I could say about my sister is she would want us to find out why? You can’t just tell me one minute I see my sister and the next day, she’s dead.”
