Electronic Arts had already announced that it would, for the first time ever, include 12 national women’s teams in its immensely popular FIFA soccer video games series. Now EA Sports has announced that three different women will be featured on the cover of the FIFA ‘16 game. For the U.S. version, Alex Morgan, the U.S. team’s star forward, will appear on the cover next to FC Barcelona’s leading man (and arguably the world’s best soccer player) Lionel Messi. The other two women to receive the honor are Canada WNT superstar Christine Sinclair, who will be next to Messi on the Canadian version, and Stephanie Catley, who will share space with Messi and a silhouette that appears to hide Tim Cahill, on the Australian version. “As soon as we knew Women’s National Teams were joining FIFA 16, we immediately recognized that Christine and Alex would be the perfect cover athletes based on their accomplishments and what they represent for their respective countries and the sport of women’s soccer,” explained David Pekush, Sr. Manager of North America Marketing for EA SPORTS. “They are exhilarating players and exude heart and courage on the pitch, and we are extremely proud to be working with them this year.”
