First African-American, woman billionaire shares advice

Janice Bryant Howroyd is officially the first African-American woman to own a billion-dollar business, after having founded staffing firm Act1 Group. What started as a moderate endeavor in 1978 has grown into a successful global enterprise. Howroyd shares four important tips: make sure you’re prepared; know what your goals are; understand that those around you will be part of your success; and always find a moment of gratitude. Howroyd credits the evolution of technology, the role of her parents, and the changing climate for women business owners for her success, while also acknowledging the challenges of growing up in a segregated environment informing her experiences.
