All-female bartending competition helps women stand out in the spirits industry

By Jennifer Perry on July 16, 2015

Ivy Mix and Lynnette Marrero are passionate about cocktails.

Both women rose through the ranks of New York’s bartending scene, working at some of the city’s best establishments. One of their biggest accomplishments is co-founding Speed Rack, an international bartending competition that formed through a chance meeting one Super Bowl Sunday. “She [Ivy] told me the concept and I’m like: ‘All right, great, let’s really think about what this can be,'” said Marrero, a consultant and president of Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails.

We caught up with both ladies at Ivy’s newest endeavor Leyenda, a Latin-themed cocktail bar in Brooklyn, to learn more about the competition that has raised more than $300,000 globally for breast cancer charities. Watch our video above to see the competition in action.
