A week after the the mysterious dismissal of a popular employee triggered a virtual shutdown of Reddit by its largely volunteer community, Ellen Pao, the interim CEO and the woman at the center of the controversy, resigned. She confirmed the news in an interview with Kara Swisher of re/code, saying that the decision for her to leave was “mutual.” Pao said she and the Reddit board were at odds over the site’s growth potential. “They had a more aggressive view than I did,” she told re/code. When asked whether she was fired, Pao said she wasn’t — and Reddit board member Sam Altman also said Pao’s departure wasn’t a firing. Steve Huffman, Reddit’s co-founder and original CEO, will take over immediately.
