Serena Williams disposed of Maria Sharapova in straight sets on the Centre Court at Wimbledon Thursday sending her to the tournament’s final for the eighth time in her illustrious career. She’s won five Wimbledon titles. Sharapova won the Wimbledon title in 2004 and made it to the final in 2011, but she was no match for Williams, who defeated her 6-2, 6-4. In the championship match on Saturday, Williams will face Garbine Muguruza, a 21-year-old from Spain, who advanced to her first major final by defeating Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets on Thursday. A victory on Saturday will keep Williams’ Grand Slam win streak alive, dating back to last year’s U.S. Open, at four — and will keep her bid to sweep the Grand Slam events in a single season alive, a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 1988.
