ESPN The Magazine debuted six covers for its annual Body issue. Olympic heptathlete Chantae McMillan, 12-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin, and USA Track & Field hammer thrower Amanda Bingson were among the athletes who snagged cover spots. During her interview with ESPN, Bingson, who’s currently 5’5” and weighs 210 pounds, recounts a time when her coach kicked her off the volleyball team for being “fat.” “There were other girls who were not as good as I was, but they fit into the uniforms. So that was her rationale,” she told the magazine. “She said unless I lost 30 pounds then I couldn’t be on the team, even though I was pretty good at volleyball,” she said. The 25-year-old athlete also chats about loving her body and her plans for celebrating a future Olympic win.
