It’s no secret that foreign fighters have been joining ISIS at rapid-fire rates. However, those aren’t the only people going to Syria to fight alongside the movement that hopes to build an Islamic caliphate: women have also been recruited from other countries through carefully-planned propaganda campaigns to be suicide bombers and brides. Western women who have joined ISIS have reportedly found escaping the terror group to be nearly impossible. Two of three British schoolgirls who ran away to Syria in February are confirmed to have married ISIS men, according to their families. This means that the chances of them returning, despite public pleas from their parents, have been significantly diminished. According to a counter-extremism researcher, leaving ISIS territory is 10 times more difficult for females than it is for males.
