Actress America Ferrera has responded to Donald Trump’s recent racist tirade with an open letter in The Huffington Post. And she’s not chastising the presidential hopeful for calling Mexican immigrants drug dealers and rapists; she’s thanking him. “You see, what you just did with your straight talk was send more Latino voters to the polls than several registration rallies combined!” Ferrera writes. “Your negativity and your poorly thought out speech ignited a fire in our community.” Ferrera goes on to point out that demographics are not exactly working in Trump’s favor: the Latino population in the U.S. grew by over 49 percent between 2000 and 2012, and the median age of a Latino American is 27 — a full 15 years younger than the median age of white Americans. “That means there are a whole lot of Americans who are Latino and have the right to vote,” she writes. “And we’re not going anywhere.” She signed her letter, cleverly, “Sincerely, America.”
