They survey comes as the U.S. currently faces a record high of childless women, 48 percent of women ages 18 to 44 are childless according to a 2014 census. The most common response was that women prefer their current lifestyles (64 percent), and only 9 percent said it was because they prioritize their careers. The largest take away from this survey may be the simple fact that all of the 270 women surveyed have their own personal and unique reasons for choosing to go childless — ranging from “I plan on commissioning into the military and wouldn’t want to put children through my deployments and constantly moving,” to “I just got out of poverty,” to “I’m selfish. Simple as that.”
