Only 16 out of 100 highest-paid celebrities are women

The gender pay gap seems persistent in about every layer of society, and every rung of the pay scale, as Forbes’ newly announced “Celeb 100” list — chronicling the highest-paid entertainers over the past year — includes just 16 women. The combined women on the list make only $809 million, compared with $4.35 billion for the men. Highest-ranked on the list is Katy Perry, who took pride in this position. “I’m not here to brag” she told Forbes, “I’m here to inspire other females.” The only other woman in the top 10 was Taylor Swift, with female musicians making up almost half of the women featured on the list. While several female TV-stars made the list (Ellen DeGeneres, Judge Judy) the only actors to be found on the list were Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Lawrence. That’s another tell-tale sign of gender disparity in Hollywood, where both the gender pay gap and the lack of female leads in major blockbusters could be blamed.
