Ashley Brokaw, 41, is the casting director behind runway shows and ads for Miu Miu, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein and many other top designers. Brokaw, Alice Gregory argues in a profile at T Magazine, has been responsible for a shift away from the more straightforwardly attractive Russian and Brazilian models and towards the more striking, unusual look favored on the runway today. Brokaw lives in rural Connecticut with her family and avoids the city as much as possible (though her job takes her to Paris, London and Milan several times a year). She began her career as a high school intern with Woody Allen’s casting director, Juliet Taylor, and studied international law at Georgetown before returning to the fashion world. “All the faces that we see today are passed through Ashley,” one fashion insider told Gregory.
